One of the activities that I really enjoy is traveling and discovering new places and their history, but not always I have time or money to travel, maybe sometimes I will travel abroad and learn about other countries and cultures, but for a while our country and region give me a lot of options to visit.
First, recently I bought a house in a community that I don’t know, and for that I created a plan to explore the area, before I moved. My new community is Dolega, the only thing that I know about it, is it is a beautiful place that still alive the traditions and its rich in naturals resources. During my research I could find many interesting places with historical value, beautiful views, and interesting activities to do.
1. Historic Places in Dolega
I really love history, and it make me feel proud about all that we through to be here like Panamanians, so I enjoy that Dolega has 2 amazing places with a long history maybe around 500 years.
Dolega’s people feel proud and happy to tell us everything about these places, one of this is The Parish of San Francisco de Asís dates to the colonial era. The church’s colonial altar, which is one of the most important historical relics of the district. This altar, which dates to the 17th century, is representative of the culture of the colonial period and needs to be preserved due to its historical value.
You don’t need to go too far to find other historical place (one small town´s advantage), in front of The Parish you have Dolega Square.
Dolega Square is a space that has been developed to commemorate and honor the history and cultural heritage of the region.
It is said that the square includes a monument dedicated to the indigenous peoples who inhabited the area, especially the Ngäbe and Buglé, who are an important part of the region’s historical identity.
2.Connection with nature
If you love nature like me Dolega is a great option, we can find beautiful views with centenary trees and rivers with clear like crystal waters. I don’t need go to far to enjoy this, just next to my house I have a wonderful river called “Los Duendes”.
Other rivers in Dolega are El Caño, famous during the carnivals, Dolega River and David River.
3.Finally, Festivals!
Dolega has great festivals and celebrations like carnivals, Festival Folclórico del Almojabano and Patronales de San Francisco de Asis.
During this celebration we can enjoy delicious traditional food and the joy and warmth of the people of Dolega.
